Pressrelease Project Openness Labeling
The Julia group is initiating Project Openness Labeling. During spring and summer of 2010 the Julia group will, with support from .SE’s Internetfonden, take on the task of defining what really constitutes an open Internet.
Since its beginning the Julia Group has had Net Neutrality as one of its primary focuses. One concern is the limitations and threats against what until now has constituted the Internet. The subject was the main discussion point during Nät och samtal III (Net and discussion) at Internetdagarna 2009 when the Julia group held an open discussion on the importance of the open Internet.
-There is a lack of consensus on how to view net neutrality today, says Karin Ajaxon from the Julia group.
- If all players have their own view regarding what constitutes an open Internet, that makes it difficult to find common points of contact and to cooperate around saving the Internet as we know it.
The goal of Project Openness Labeling is to analyze if there is, amongst the internet providers in Sweden, a common ground for guidelines to what kind of Internet can, will and should be supplied. The purpose of the Julia group’s work is also to facilitate a more open discussion of what constitutes a “true” or at least “good” Internet.
